Milwaukee Social Club
Men’s and Coed 5on5 Basketball Rules and Regulations
(Revised Winter
2004)
· All registrations and payments need to be completed by the second week
of play. Any team with a balance at that time will not be allowed to play until
payment in full has been received.
· Players may be added/deleted from rosters through the third week of
play. Only players officially on the team roster may participate in any game.
If you have a need for a sub (a non-roster player) the opposing team must
give their approval in order for the player to become eligible. No subs are
allowed in any playoff game.
· No refunds can be honored once registration deadline has passed.
Things each of us should
remember:
· Please respect the school gym, grounds, and parking areas and clean up after yourselves. We depend on facilities like this for our league activity, so please treat them with care.
· All teams are REQUIRED to provide a scorekeeper every week. Please check the league schedule for instructions on when your scorekeeper is needed. Failure to provide a scorekeeper at the scheduled time will result in a $15 fine that must be paid prior to playing in any further MSC games.
· Please read the official MSC Basketball rules before beginning play. If you have any questions or need clarification on any rules or regulations, please ask an official.
· All MSC Leagues will have a post-game bar sponsor. The sponsor bar is
usually located just a few minutes away from the site of league games. Any player
in the league can take advantage of special MSC discounts at the sponsor bar
after all league games.
· All teams must supply their own individually
numbered jerseys/T-shirts for league play. Please indicate which color you would
like as your jersey color upon registering your team in order to avoid teams
wearing the same colored jerseys. Team colors are available on a first come,
first served basis.
· Game time is forfeit time. The minimum number of players a team may compete
with at any time is four. If a team does not have four players signed in and
ready to play at game time, a five-minute grace period will begin. If the necessary
players arrive within the grace period, the game will not be forfeited. However,
there will be a five-minute runoff of the first half game clock and the late
team will begin the game trailing by ten points. No exceptions will be made
to this rule in order to begin all games exactly at their scheduled times. Arrive
early for your games and stretch out.
· Games consist of two twenty-minute halves with a running clock. The clock
will stop only on dead ball situations within the last minute of each half and
during timeouts called by each team. Teams are allowed two timeouts (one minute
in length) per game. In case of ties, a two-minute overtime period will be played
with a stopped clock. Teams receive no additional timeouts during the overtime
period.
· Substitutions may ONLY occur during dead ball situations. The officials
must be made aware of any substitutions. Substituting on the fly will result
in a technical foul assessed to the team captain. All technical fouls result
in two foul shots plus possession of the ball at midcourt.
· The alternate possession rule will be in effect for the entire length
of the contest, except at the start of the game and overtime periods.
· Any player accumulating five personal fouls will be disqualified from
the game. All technical fouls count as personal fouls. A player will also be
ejected for accumulating two technical fouls. Keep it clean and have fun.
· Seven team fouls in a half will result in the bonus situation (1 and 1
free throws). Ten team fouls results in the double bonus (2 free throws).
· All decisions of the officials are FINAL. BASKETBALL IS A TOUGH
SPORT TO OFFICIATE, so give your officials some credit. Any derogatory talk
directed toward an official will result in a warning. Any further abuse will
result in a technical foul and possible ejection. Any cursing or physical threats
directed toward an official will result in an automatic ejection from the game
and potential further disciplinary action up to an including suspension from
the league altogether.
· Team captains are responsible for the conduct of their fans. Misconduct
on the part of fans may result in a technical foul (assessed to the team captain)
or forfeiture of the game in extreme situations. The officials have discretion
in all situations.
· Trash talking will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action,
including ejection from the game. Respect your opponent. Play hard and have
a good time, but always exercise good sportsmanship.
· The lead official/supervisor has the right to override any call in any
situation at his/her discretion.
All rules for Co-ed games are the same
as above with the following exceptions:
· Lineups consist of three women and two men. A minimum of two men and two women are needed to begin a game.
· Women’s points are scored using a plus one system. That is, each two-point basket counts as three points; each three-point basket counts as four points; each free throw counts as two points.
· There are no restrictions on defense, meaning men are allowed to guard women and vice versa.
· A women’s sized basketball (28.5) will be used for play in all games.
· Basketballs will be provided by the Milwaukee Social Club. Teams can supply their own if they so desire.
· All rosters must be finalized by week three of the season. Please turn in any roster changes and monies due to the MSC Office, NOT to the league supervisor. Rosters need to include full names, complete home addresses and phone numbers.
· Any team with outstanding balances may be subject to forfeit until all fees are paid.
· Players need to sign in each week prior to game time.
· Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. Referees have the right to eject a player (or fan) from any game for swearing at an official or opponent or for being unruly in any situation.
· Alcoholic beverages are not permitted on the premises during any league games, regular season or playoffs.
· League standings will be available at league play and online as of week three of the season.
· Schedules will be available at the games and also posted on MSC’s website:
· The final week or two (depending on league size) is playoffs/mini-tourney. Team captains will be notified of times for these games. Information will also be available on the web.
· The championship team from each league wins prizes from MSC and the league sponsor bar. Prizes vary based on league size, but generally can include t-shirts and a team pitcher party.
